December 5 is International Volunteer Day. What better day to go to Peregian to attend the Healthy Towns awards and find out that our garden was a finalist. If that wasn’t good enough a later announcement was that we were a joint winner with Palmwoods Community Garden.
We won the award, which also has a $ component, that we can put to very good use in starting up the garden. The organisers said ‘This award recognises the community’s commitment to their town’s environment by acknowledging programs led by community groups specifically promoting environmentally friendly activities’. How good is that! Thanks Healthy Towns – your motto is spot on: Healthy Towns, Happy People!
