After our last meeting we did four more soil tests around the site. The soil depth is not that good. But we looked at all these things (thanks Alan Coates!):
How much ground cover is there?
What colour are the leaves on the surface?
How many types of soil animals are there in a clod?
How far down can a soil probe go?
How long does it take for water to infiltrate the soil?
Are there many fine roots in the clod?
Does the soil have a crumbed texture?
How many earthworms can you find in a clod?
What is the pH at 10cm deep and at 20cm deep?
